Shin Kanzen Master N2 Reading Comprehension

新完全マスター読解 日本語能力試験N2

Four months of runway and a weak reading section point straight at the most rigorous reading book. Its schedule fits yours almost exactly: the skill-building parts through October at an hour a day, exam-format practice in November.

Shin Kanzen Master N2 Listening

新完全マスター聴解 日本語能力試験N2

Your second-best use of the hour. Listening rewards a little daily contact more than any other section, and this volume's sessions are short enough to stack after your reading block twice a week.

JLPT Official Practice Workbook N2 Vol. 2

日本語能力試験公式問題集 第二集 N2

Real past questions from the exam makers. Don't study from it — sit it once, timed, two weeks before the exam, and spend the remaining days on whatever it exposes.

¥3,700 + tax for all three books — about US$26.

Not bad books — the wrong books for this plan. Sixty minutes a day is a budget, and these would spend it without moving your December score.

Cover of Nihongo So-matome N2 Vocabulary

A separate vocabulary book — e.g. Nihongo So-matome N2 Vocabulary

Your reading book is a vocabulary book: at N2 you learn words fastest inside passages. A separate vocab volume would compete for your hour without adding score.

Cover of Nihongo So-matome N2 Kanji

A separate kanji book — e.g. Nihongo So-matome N2 Kanji

Kanji study is already embedded in every reading session you'll do. Add a dedicated book only if December's mock shows kanji questions failing specifically.

How the four months play out

  1. 01August — SeptemberShin Kanzen Reading, Part 1 (essays and commentary). Slow is expected: you're learning contrast and paraphrase mechanics, not finishing pages.
  2. 02OctoberReading Parts 2–3 (practical documents, exam-format sets). Start Listening: three sessions a week after your reading block.
  3. 03NovemberFinish both books' mock sections. Sit the Official Practice Workbook timed in the third week.
  4. 04DecemberNo new material. Re-read your mistakes, keep daily listening contact until exam day.
